A selection of recent Live Vibe Music workshop and project highlights
SPARK FESTIVAL 2004, 2005 & 2006- a 3 day event for people experiencing a disability
Spark is an award winning creative arts event created by LVM, the Artistic Directors for The Junction Works in Sydney. Spark had over 120 participants with 8 artists facilitating 8 different workshops 4 times a day over 2 days. The final day is ALL participants presenting their own finale concert showcasing the outcomes of the workshops. This formula was enhanced by the fact all facilitators are fulltime practicing performers/musicians so each evenings concert offered world class entertainment. The 2nd Spark Festival was recently held in July 2005 with rave reviews featuring a recording studio, movement, cabaret, beat box, visual art & the creation of a dvd with both images & soundtrack created by participants. Spark 3 is in August 2006 and is now funded by State Government.
MAGIC IN MUSIC - songwriting with students in Sth Western Qld
LVM were finalists in Qld government SHINE awards for Women using Innovative Technology in the Community. A focus on 7 schools in 10 days = 9 song cd release presenting a powerful and positive message to the community focused on awareness & mentoring of role models on appropriate behaviours. The Working Against Abuse Service in Roma facilitated this project in St George, Cunnamulla, Charleville, Mithchell & Taroom and Live Vibe worked along side psychologists to evaluate the impact of this project on participants and offer follow up support & counselling.

PROTECT YOURSELF - two songs & a radio 'interview' for a work manual for carers in the Disability Field
A large group of young people with a Disability created songs building awareness on protective behaviours & appropriate intimacy. The 'interview' process was created & initiated by LVM & has proven a very effective addition along with the songs to the manual. The process of discussion regards the 'interviewer' and interviewee' offered substantial interaction & excellent 'safe' grounds for very challenging & lively discussions!
RAP IT UP - Intergenerational recording project with elderly people & students from Beerwah Flexi School
A Seniors week project for Caloundra Community Centre initiated as an opportunity for considering bridging the issues that historically have created division between generations with a focus on challenging ageist attitudes, myths, stereotypes, to foster greater understanding between youth and misconceptions held by each group and the general public concerning younger and older people.Participants initially showed resistance to working together due to genre of music & ageist attitudes. After experiencing the process of writing & recording they became very engaged in the process & everyone was willing to listen thus the music became a real bridge for understanding & interpreting the issues & messages in each song.

POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS - 6 wk recording project with young male students in Western Sydney
This project was about creating a workshop manual & cd as a resource facilitating positive relationships among behaviour challenged male student. Participants identified as disadvantaged and or with behavioural issues within low socio economic and diverse cultural communities in Cambelltown during the Macquarie Fields 'riots'. This project generated outstanding outcomes - marked improvements in behaviour and mentoring / peer assessment & cross cultural / religious collaborations were among some highlights. This project was recently launched to much acclaim by the State Minister in Sydney and the songwriting / recording component identified as a crucial element to achievement by the young male students involved.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY MUSIC PROGRAM - for Caloundra City Council Youth Service
A school holiday program featuring a different music workshops 5 days a week - Drum n Bass / Guitar Gurus / Acoustic Expression Sessions / Chix Rock / Songwriting & Recording

NON ENGLISH SPEAKING STUDENTS SONGWRITING & RECORDING - Noosa English College
An exhilarating project working with young international students writing & recording songs in English. Using music as the communication medium it was a challenging & rewarding experience - as much for us as the participants!

YEPPOON ARTS FESTIVAL 2005 & 2006 - a portable recording studio @ a major community event
A very positive addition to the program was the portable LVM studio! These workshops provided the forum for young & old alike - novice, semi professional & aspiring musos flocked to this workshop - in fact we could have run these sessions EVERYDAY for the week of the festival! The opportunity was to record a song OR be supported to write & record. The result = 9 solo/duos & trios @ Yeppoon Festival & as we are musicians www.mettaphor.com we also played 3 shows......all in 48 hours!

BEERWAY FLEXI SCHOOL - songwriting & recording
A 3 month project at school working with marginalised youth on the Sunshine Coast. Known as a challenging school for the challenged this project generated much group enthusiasm with exception self esteem outcomes.
COMMUNITY CARE UNIT - Mental Health Music Project for Qld Health
LVM are credited with running one of the most successful music program for people experiencing Mental Health Issues in Australia. We have presented papers @ National & International Conferences in 2004 generating national interest in our process & outcomes. What began as a 12 week project now continues 8 years later & 17 participants recently released a music CD to intense interest & critical acclaim.

WALLABY CREEK FESTIVAL COOKTOWN 2006 - a portable recording studio @ a major community event Live Vibe presented 4 workshops over the weekend in songwriting, recording, drum n bass, strings & things, & as musicians www.mettaphor.com we also played several shows.
Doom Sirens
MUSIC MENTORING & RECORDING - a RADF project mentoring two young men as emerging artists The Doom Sirens are two young men who experience mental health issues and write their own material. LVM were engaged to mentor their aspirations of becoming musicians. We recorded a 4 track EP and facilitated them to attend a professional photo shoot to generate bios & press kits. This project is envisioned to be released end of 2005

YOUTH FESTIVAL 2004 & 2005 - a 2 day event for young people
In September 2005 LVM presented songwriting/recording/hiphop workshops @ this event in Nowra NSW. Based on the award winning award winning creative arts festival Spark model with 80 participants with 8 artists facilitating 6 different workshops - clowning / graffiti / short films / break dancing & beat box

CHOIRS - DISABILITIES NSW & COMMUNITY QLD - creating a unique model of performance choir
This choir rehearses to cd recordings. Workshops were held to select the choir & songs. Live Vibe then created the rehearsal cds in the studio so now members can rehearse EVERY day if they choose & are able to rehearse as a group with their carers offering a very affordable, sustainable outcome for the service.

YOUNG WOMENS REFUGE - pre production & performance mentoring
This project was about a group of young indigenous women with an exceptional amount of talent & little knowledge of how to focus & express. Over six weeks LVM developed there songs, stage presence, performance technique & use of sound equipment leading to performance & recordings at Murri radio station AAA
SONGWRITING, PRODUCTION & RECORDING PROJECT - a four track professional release/demo
Jennifer Pickering was a child prodigy in classical piano - until the pressures involved became too much and so began the roller coaster of mental health issues. Also a brilliant vocalist with outstanding ability the tragedy of circumstance only exacerbated her illness. This project came about as 'an escape' from a repetitive pattern of hospitals & self harming. The offer was - stop harming & start making music! This project has been long & definitively challenging on many levels however the outcome is astounding.The result - a CD which completed by November 2006 - a very passionate project above & beyond the call of duty - an exceptional experience.

ROMA DISABILITIES SERVICE QLD 2006 - a song/recording session for disabilities & siblings
This workshop over 1 day for people experiencing a disability & their siblings focused on family relationships- the challenges & the positive, exploring the issues that concern a family who have varying abilities.
STRANGER DANGER - a song writing & recording project for an after school program
This project was created due to several incidence of 'stranger danger' at a school. LVM workshopped children over two days to create a very catchy & infectious song about issues surrounding safety awareness travelling to & from school predominantly however the agenda flowed across everyday life. Using the medium of music gave the kids a huge buzz & also created a very powerfull message - written by them & sung by them!

MT BEAUTY MUSIC MUSTER 2006 - a portable recording studio @ a major community event
Live Vibe presented 3 workshops over the weekend in collaborative songwriting & facilitated two 'blackboard' recording sessions. A local band Squid Jig achieved their goal of a professional demo & several young women took the challenge to write a song each in 3 minutes - then record it! The resulting compilation album is making waves on local radio & offers a unique 'outcome' for the muster to pursue further funding opportunities.
DISABILITY POST SCHOOL OPTIONS PROJECT - song writing & recording
5 x 3 hour workshops across 5 centres resulting in a 5 track cd. This project was an empowering process using vocal & rhythmic skill building exercises with a focus on visual art to 'draw' the lyrics! A high support group also engaged by creating a sound scape - everyone regardless of ability became involved - from banging chairs or spinning wheels - singing their hearts out & creating an outcome for the service to market & promote their centres.

MACKAY DISABILITIES SERVICE QLD 2006 - a song/recording session for disabilities
This workshop over 2 day for people experiencing a disability & their siblings focused on connection community.
MOARI CULTURAL GROUP RECORDING - creating a cultural learning tool
Gathering for 4 sessions of 3 hours a recording was created of traditional songs & harmonies. The group had formed a choir & were keen for everyone to have access to learn the songs so the creation of a cd with all songs & then all the different harmonies was an opportunity they relished. Not only can they be taught they are also captured for future generations.
PRESCHOOL ALPHABET SONG RECORDING
working with young children to create the singing alphabet

Now this is an innovative way to grasp the alphabet - write your own group! This project was very rewarding for the kids - many had not yet grasped the machinations of the alphabet & the process of writing the song engaged them in a constant learning process using their natural response to music as the medium!
